Island Echoes – body, land and sea is a cross-aesthetic performance project consisting of 3 performance works connecting the geographically and culturally distinct island nations of the Faroe Islands, Denmark and Indonesia. The productions will premiere in Makassar, Helsingør and Tórshavn.
Island Echoes consists of three site-specific performance works, rooted in contemporary political and cultural challenges, with an artistic team that spans all three countries. Visually rich choreographic tableaux and music will create images and spaces in which politics is sensed before it is understood—allowing complexity to exist rather than be resolved.
Conversations between invited guests is staged as a theatrical form, inviting people from various areas of expertise to participate on equal terms as the dancers and musicians. The conversations form a central part of the work, offering diverse perspectives on the core themes reflection on sociocultural and psychological state of being associated with living on or experiencing an island and being island nations.
